The pair first got together in the obscure but magnificently-named Motorgoat, releasing a solitary single in 1993. They didn't follow it up until 1996's 'Early Recordings' album, after which Weiss joined Sleater Kinney for a period and Coobes busied himself working with Built To Spill and Elliot Smith's band. The first real Quasi album arrived in 1996 as 'R&B Transmogrification' and subsequent works include 'Featuring Birds' (1998), Field Studies (1999) and The Sword Of God (2001), by which time they had moved to noted US indie label Touch And Go.
